Critical System Error

I have recently had a virus and spyware on my system. Norton anti virus and
ad aware have managed to delet most of these however I have this very
annoying pop up on my task bar. every so many seconds it pops up telling me
that i have a critical system error and spyware is on my system. It then
takes me to a site to download a program to solve it. I already have ad aware
and do not want any other. Also when I go to my internet home page it has
gone and has been replaced with a page promoting security programs.

How do I get rid of the pop up message and also get rid of the web page?

Incidentally the symbol flashing on my task bar is the same as the help and
support question mark symbol and it flashes and changes to a no entry sign
and then back again!

Hi

Try searching for any spyware you may have on your system:

Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://aumha.org/downloads/cwshredder.zip
Spy Sweeper - www.webroot.com
Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com

Try SpyWareBlaster to stop intrusions:

Also see the following links:

http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Also run a virus-check on your system with the latest definitions for your
anti virus program.

Is the name of the pop-up or the website that it takes you to a secret?

There may be a specific fix for this particular spyware program. This is usually true for the particularly hard to remove malicious programs.
