critical system error

In my task bar a blue flashing question mark appears upon startup, stating i
have a critical system error. When i click this balloon it takes me to
virusburst website telling me i may have a virus or spyware and to let them
scan my computer. I hav'nt done this as i already have virus protection
(Norten) and spyware protection (AdwareSE) and (Windows Defender). My
question is whether this is a valid system problem or are virusburst just
trying to get me to buy their software, and if so how can i get rid of it, it
is very stubborn. I can't seem to get rid of it, i've evan tried system
restore, but i cant restore my computer, i keep getting a message "system
restore was unable to restore my computer no changes have been made". which
is a problem in it's self.

You have some sort of Malware. Search this site ( or
microsoft.public.security) for "David Lipman". He has good advice for this
sort of thing...

Virus Burst is a recent variant of the Smitfraud trojan. Your computer
is infested. Go through the preparatory steps here:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Then go through the specific removal steps here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic63896.html

Finish up with the rest of the malware removal steps from the first
link.

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA).
