CPU Usage 100%

My HP Notebook had Norton 2004 and Ad-Aware installed. I took the computer
to Best Buy to see what was wrong-they only recommended installing Norton
2005 and cited viruses as the potential problem. The computer now has the
updated Norton installed and the problem still persists. My CPU usage (and
fan) is running at 100 percent whether the internet is on or not. The
process running so high is the System!? Is this a virus that Norton missed
that has plauged my computer or another problem? Help is greatly appreciated!

If the actual name of the process is System!? or System!

If so, with one or both punctuation characters as part of the name,
then your computer is infested with some sort of nasty present that
has eluded Norton and Ad-Aware.

Go to http://download.microsoft.com and get the free Beta version of
Microsoft Antispyware and install it then run it to check your system
out further.

Good luck

I am having the same problem. I have run AntiSpyware and still keeps running.
I am guessing the cpu is at 100%. the system is real slugish and the fan runs
constantly. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on? I try Ctl+Alt+Dlt to
get my task manager but when I click on it it will not come up.!! Help!

You could try booting into "safe mode" and see what happens. I had a similar
problem a while ago and downloaded the Ultimate Troubleshooter from
http://www.answersthatwork.com/ This software will list running processes as
well as start ups. It indicated some processes that were cpu intensive and
not needed and allows you to stop them running (this is not free software
though). The site also has a list of processes and a description so if you
can get task manager to open you could look all the processes up.l

Check what process is consuming maximum of you CPU.
If it is services.exe or levntmgr.exe then probably some software is not installed properly. u can run windows repair if u have installation cd.
