CPU swap on A7S333

Pete

I installed an XP2600 (2.133ghz) in place of the 1.2gig Athlon I've
been running since day 1 of this PC. I had PC2700 installed all along,
and I have not changed the BIOS. I know my bus speed can now go to
166mhz.
The BIOS is asking for the CPU speed, 1.2, 1.6, or manual. I realize
I don't have the info I need to complete this task. I would greatly
appreciate some assistance. Is the CPU speed choice limited by the
version of the BIOS? Since the manual says the mb supports XP, I
expected the existing BIOS to be adequate despite being original.
Thanks.

There are 3 different 2600+'s.
AXDA2600DKV3C - T-Bred 2600+ (133x16.0) (266FSB)
AXDA2600DKV3D - T-Bred 2600+ (166x12.5)
AXDA2600DKV4D - Barton 2600+ (166x11.5)

ASUS supports shows only the Athlon XP 2600+(266FSB)(Model
8)(Thoroughbred) is supported on that mobo w bios 1004 or later.

Your BIOS probably has problems recognizing your CPU. You need BIOS 1.004 at
least (get the 1.006) to run this CPU (XP2600+ 2,13GHz, 266MHz FSB,
Thoroughbred).
There should be no need to try running 166MHz FSB (333MHz).

Egil;
Thanks for your advice. I flashed to 1.006, but it still does not go
beyond the previous list of "manual, 1.2, or 1.6" and 13 is the
largest multiplier. Win XP reports it as an XP2000, running at 1.6. I
could have sworn that XP2600 existed in the period that the A7S333 was
in production, and no BIOS newer than 1.006 exists. I guess I'm stuck?
I've looked for more info relating to this, but have had no luck. As
far as 166 on the bus goes, I paid the $$ for PC2700, why not use it?

Hi!
Then try selecting "manual". Afterwards select "133MHz" as "front side bus
"speed. If the CPU is factory unlocked, you will have to set "CPU
multiplier" to 16.
Keep system/memory bus speed at 1:1 and select "CAS2" in the memory
settings.

SNIP!

Thanks again Egil. I think I'm screwed. The multiplier won't go any
higher than 12.5 and I believe my CPU is locked. Looks like I'm stock
with an overpriced XP2000. There is another thread that points out
some contradictory information in the Asus user manual that leads me
to believe that the A7S333 is not a 333-capable MB.
