CPU Fan

Hello,
When Windows XP Professional is loading, it turns off my
CPU Fan. The CPU Fan is on, until the Windows starting
logo disappears and the login page shows. I had the same
problem with Windows 2000 Professional. I have also
Windows 98 SE installed, which has no problem with the CPU
Fan. The CPU is PentiumII 450 MHz and the Motherboard
brand is GigaByte.
I would be grateful if someone solves my problem.

Maybe... but I really doubt it because I just replaced a Thermaltake 7 that
suddenly started doing something similar.

It would run for a short while after booting, then slow-down, twitter, and
then stop...causing my alarm to go off.

I opened the case, and booted. Watched it fail, unplugged the fan's power,
plugged it back in - same results - work then die.... over and over.

I plugged it into a free fan header on my motherboard, and it worked just
fine -at about 3000 rpms.... but I decided to replace it since the fan
consumed up to .45Amps, and I didn't want to damage the header on my
motherboard. (I wasn't sure how much it could handle).

Thermaltake warns against using their fans on the motherboard directly
anyway, due to supporting higher rpms in warm temps.
A new, better, Thermaltake 7+ was under $30.

Good luck,
-Lawrence in Seattle
