CPU AUDIO

At some stage on my travels through my computer I have ticked a box that
enables audio from the CPU; I now get a clicking noise that tells me the
processor is active, it is extremely annoying and I would like to make it
silent again can anybody help?

It is undoubtedly a setting in your BIOS setup. Ususally you would get some
text message on the screen during a cold start, like 'press del key to enter
setup'

Thanks for the suggestion I had a look at the BIOS setup but it's a page I've
never seen before; I highlighted f5 (default settings) in the hope that would
solve the problem, unfortunately I'm still 'clicking'. I was unwilling to go
elsewhere as I would be wondering blind and might do damage.

Underneath the start button on the front of my computer are two lights, a
blue one which glows continuously and an amber light which flashes; the
clicking noise coincides with the amber light, the more prominant and more
stable this light the greater the noise, for that reason I assumed it was the
CPU.

I would think that one light was the 'on' light, and the blinking one was the
hard drive. If so, I would make a quick attempt to save as much critical data
as possible to some permanent media. (burn a cd, find a network storage
location, or whatever) The clicking could well mean you have a failing hard
drive.

Save settings and data with the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard (FAST
wizard): Go To: http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/fast.htm

On a lighter note, there is acutally a 'click' sound in the the sounds app
of control panel, (called 'start.wav') It could be tied to the "Navigation"
event.

Many thanks I'm going to try the 'start.wav' and keep my fingures crossed
that's it, but do as you suggest and make sure my back ups are fully up to
date and offsite - Just in case!
