could not connect to internet

I tried to do a manual update at our office but keep
getting an error "warning, could not connect to the
internet". At first we thought it was our proxy server,
but then it updated on a few and not others. Tried it at
home, got same warning. What setting are we missing?

There are a number of causes of this message, and I haven't succeeded in
fixing this for many instances. One cause is if Internet Explorer or
Outlook Express is set to work offline.

One user found that setting the proxy settings for IE's Internet Connection
to "automatically detect" helped--I suspect that only helps if you are
behind a proxy--but then you said you were, so....

No proxy at home, but I do have a router and "auto
detect" was already checked. And another piece of the
puzzle, I got error msg at the office for a couple days
then it connected and updates came thru. The guy sitting
next to me got same error msg before and after I was
successful. Our administrator just scratched his head.
Hate to be a pain, but now what? Could it have anything
to do with ZoneAlarm or Norton AntiVirus on home PC?

I'm having the same problem, unable to have the software
detect an internet connection to run either automatic or
manual updates. Its not a problem with my internet
connectionas everything else is running normally. Anyone
have an answer for us?

I began to receive that message after installing the
CounterSpy program from Sunbelt... and ultimately had to
uninstall BOTH programs (nearly identical and share a dll
as well) - what a major pain that was. Have you installed
other Anti-spyware?

I have the same problem. When I clean up WebHancer
Windows XP Pro does not allocate an IP address.

Shouldn't be NAV, could concievably be ZoneAlarm. Does it log things that
are blocked outbound? Can you turn it off and test an update?
