Corrupted PST files

T

Tom Ross

I had an Outlook 2000 instalation that was kind of problematic (Windows 200
was also crashing around it). I managed to export the inbox and sent items
box to pst files as backup before reconfiguring the machine. I also put
the entire .pst file in a zip file which now will not extract.

Now I cannot import from those .pst files. I get errors including
"information service must be defined before using"
"File has errors, use scanpst"

SCANPST goes through recognizes the file, says there are x folders and y
items and repairs with no errors.

When I thry to import or open it works shows a progress bar for a while then
fails with an error that "a prarmeter was set incrorrectly"

Is there any utility available that will extract the raw data from the pst
file into a huge text or csv file that I can search with primitve methods?

Or is there some other utility that works like scanpst.exe that I can try to
recover my data

Thanks

Tom

1. Ensure the file is not marked read only.
2. OPEN the file from Outlook File->Open->Personal Folders File.

If this fails then you have a corrupt export of your data. If you still
have the source, simply copy the .pst file to your new installation (no need
for import/export if you intend to use it in Outlook) and open it.

Yep tried all that along with the furious head scratching. Definately
corrupt

So how to uncorrupt. I don't necessarily need it to work in Outlook
(although that would be nice) If I can get the messages (few attachments) in
raw text or spreadsheet form or better.

I tried 'Recover for Outlook' (a downloaded demo) but it was only able to
find some of the old messages.

Is there something more primitive available? A digital 'Bigger Hammer'

Sorry - Outlook is the only application that can read a .pst file TTBOMK,
but you can search google.com to see if there are any other programs out
there that can extract data from a .pst file.

I seem to recall reading about one or more in the last 6 months, but I have
eaten and slept since then.
