using word 2002; portions of word documents have mysteriously and randomly
become corrupt with gibberish. I can't tell whether the corruption is
happening while the document is opened and or after it has been saved.
There is no pattern to the corruption other than it being word documents and
being on the network.

help?

Could be a transmission problem on the network; it's certainly not unheard of.
Until the problem is tracked down and fixed, it might be better to save to the
local drive, then COPY the files to the network after they've been saved and
closed.
