Copying .pst file files from XP with OL2002 to OL2007 Vista

Andy

From an earlier posting there were several replies that help me, but I still
have problems that I’m hopeful somebody can assist with.

It seems I have “messed up†copying .pst file files from XP with OL2002 to
OL2007 Vista!
Should I start again by deleting all the files on the Vista machine and
then only copying the ones recommend? The files I have on the XP that I
have copied to Vista are:
• Archive backup.pst 1,084,224 KB Office Data File 01/02/08
• Archive.pst 1,084,224 KB Office Date File 01/02/08
Extened.dat 2KB DAT File 11/01/08
Inbox at 8jan07.pst 48 KB Office Data File
01/02/08
• Mailbox.PAB 32 KB Office Data File 31/01/07
• Outlook backup 1,176,240 KB Office Data File 14/11/07
• Outlook.pst 1,167,824 KB Office Data File 01/02/08
• Personal Folders (1) 32 KB Office Data File 01/02/08
• Sent at 8jan.pst 48 KB Office Data File 01/02/08

The above files I copied from Ol2002 XP to: Vista \Documents\Outlook

I have duplications in all the folders branches. I have some of my folders
from OL 2002 and the new OL2007 have the same name. (In Box, Junk Mail, Sent
mail, etc,)

I can’t find all my OL 2002 sent files only to Nov 07.

I seem to have too many contact books. (I can find my OL2002 contacts but
it’s not readily available. I have go and find it.

New e-mail’s are coming into the Vista in box, and I can send fine.

So should I start again? I don’t mind is this is recommended.

Not sure what "replies" you read, but this is a very poor choice for
migrating Outlook data. You never copy Outlook data into the default folder.
Select which of these files you really need (most likely only the PST file
you are currently using), copy it to any location on the new hard drive
except the default, then open it in Outlook.
Detailed instructions are posted here every day:
Take a look at these pages for info on Outlook data backup or transfer:

Thanks Russ,

I was told to copy my files is the the same as backup?

I was told to make a directory in Vista doucuments\outlook is this the
correct place to copy the pst files to?

Shall I delete all the file I copied to vista: \outlook other than the
Outlook.pst and the Outlook backup.pst. Will all my contacts come over in the
..pst files.

Or should I delete them all and start again and only copy the Outlook.pst
and the Outlook backup.pst

As I said, I would not copy any data to Outlook's default directory. You can
copy it anywhere else you wish. I believe all the rest of your questions are
answered in the information I posted. I would just start over with a new
Outlook profile and migrate your data according to those directions. All
Outlook data is in your PST file.
