Copy & Paste list of Midi's from Winows Exp - HOW?

Ok... guys I"ve known how to copy and paste since 1996 and just spend
about 30 minutes on the net searching how to C&P from Windows Explorer. I
have over 500 midi files and need to send a list of thier names to some
friends. I tried to C&P them to WordPad and I got 500 midi's in WP, and
no way to STOP it once they started to transfer. Esc didn't work, Task
Manager wouldn't work and the STOP button in WE wouldn't work.... I had
to wait then just delete the whole mess. I need a list of the names so
prt scrn wont work either - how is this done from WE? Do I need special
software?

How do I copy the list of the NAMES Of the midi files and not the files
themselves to so I can send the list to my friends?
I would also like a list of my MPs as well. I have over 2500 of them.

Open a command window to the required folder and enter:

dir *.mid > list.txt

This will output a directory listing into the file list.txt. Type dir /?
for further help on the parameters available to the dir command.

** How is this done? "What does "to the required folder" mean? What is a
command window? You mean Start/Run...?
dir *.mid > list.txt
This will output a directory listing into the file list.txt. Type dir
/?

** Can this be explained in a non-tech way? Where would I locate the
"file list .txt" after it's "put out?" There's nothing about this in my
XP-Book.

** What does this mean? All I need is a list of all the names of the midi
files to send her.

are there in XP?

Click Start -> Run, type in CMD and click OK. The required folder is the
folder in which your midi files are located. You can change to the desired
folder using the CD command. For example:

To change to the C:\Windows\Media folder, you enter the command: cd
c:\windows\media

The file will be created in the same directory your midi files are in. I
wouldn't normally expect an XP book to have this information as these are
old DOS commands. Sometimes though, you just have to revert to DOS as the
easiest way to get what you want. Might be an idea to pop down to your
local library as they usually have books on DOS.

You can change the way the output is displayed using some of the optional
parameters available to the DIR command. You can see these with the command
DIR /?

Good grief... Is English you're first language? It means my comments are in
line with your comments... Try reading down and looking for the comments
