Copies automatically made when deleting photos!!

I have been organizing my photos on my pc. I deleted several without problem
then suddenly as I was deleting some others although they were deleted,
copies were being made as fast as I was deleting them and then copies of
copies. Help!! How do I stop this as I can't get to delete them as it is on
going? This has happened before but appeared to right itself. Can anyone
help?

I am using Windows XP Home

Are you trying to delete by dragging the files to the Recycle Bin? If
yes, this problem usually occurs because the hand isn't quite as steady
as one would want. You're moving the files slightly as you drag and that
is creating the extra copies.

First lower the sensitivity of your mouse from the Mouse applet in
Control Panel. Then change the way you delete. Either select files and
then right-click>Delete or select files and use File>Delete. To select
multiple contiguous files, highlight the first file in the series and
then hold down the Shift key and highlight the last file in the series.
All your desired files will be highlighted. Then use the right-click or
File menu deletion procedure. To delete non-contiguous files, hold down
the Ctrl key as you select.

Thanks Malke, unfortunately it does not help me as I was not dragging the
files to the Recycle Bin. I was using both methods that you have described
to delete the files when this happened. Any other suggestions?

What happens if you try a different mouse? Other than that, I don't know
why this is happening since I'd really need to see what you were doing.
I'm sorry I was unable to help you.

This happens to me sometimes due to mouse, me, the weather, etc.

When it happens, I change the view to "List" and have no problems.

Hi WaIIy, Brilliant that worked a treat! I had 44 original photos and ended
up deleting 3000 odd with all the copies! I will remember that trick if it
happens again.
Thanks a lot.

Hi Malke I have just realsed that what you told me has cured the problem.
When highlighting multiple contiguous files I was holding down the Ctrl key
and selecting each one therefore in essence dragging over the files and
moving them slightly so that they were making copies. When I used the Shift
key as you described no problem.

Thanks a lot

Hi Malke, I realise that what you told me has solved the problem. To
highlight multiple contiguous files I was holding doen Ctrl and selecting
each file but was dragging across each one and moving it slightly so that it
was making copies. If I use the Shift key method as you described it works
fine. Thanks a lot

Great! I'm glad that sorted it for you. Thanks for taking the time to
let me know.

That's when it happens to me, using the Ctrl key to pick a few items if
I'm in Icon View.
