I have been using WinXP Home edition and everything was right with my
IE 6. There are some sites that I remained logged in after closing the
browser window. After that I upgraded to WinXP Pro. I don't know
whether the issue has anything to do with the upgrade or other programs
i installed after that, but cookies seem to get deleted after closing
the browser. Nothing was changed in the browser settings, but since I
thought there could be some setting that accidently changed, I switched
from medium to the lowest security option, no change. It seems like I
am allowing all cookies, but the browser doesn't remember me on site
where I choose the option "remember me".. Cleaning all of browser's
cache did not help. Other browsers such as Firefox work fine, so I
thought this is an IE specific issue, upgraded to IE7 beta which did
not change anything either. I am really stuck.

Hi,

Yes, I guess it's a third-party program that deletes the cookies - and you
are the only one who knows what has bene installed on your computer.

In any case, verify IE settings (IE, Tools, Internet Options, Advanced,
under Security: make sure "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when
browser is closed" is unchecked.

Kind regards

Hans

Hi pronull,
Try this Clear all you cache and Set the Browser to keep the History for
longer than 15 days (as you like).
Then click on Settings, in the Settings window Drag the Selector under the
Header title Amount of disk space to use to about 70-128 Mb the least and
click Ok to confirm the settings.
Click on Advanced Tab and under Security Option:
[ ] Empty the Temps files and Folders when the Browser is closed
Unchek this Box.
Reboot and see if the Issue will be solved after accessing many websites.
Please let us know your findings
Regards

Thanks for the help Nass and Hans. Unfortunately the problem is still
there.

-"[ ] Empty the Temps files and Folders when the Browser is closed"
was unchecked.
- Browser keeps the history for 20 days.
- Disk space usage is 200MB.
- Cleaning all cache doesn't help, either.

Could this have anything to do with the index.dat (32KB) file in the
cookies folder?

Hi Pronull,
Try uninstall IE7 and Reinstall/Repair IE6, as IE7 still Beta and under
testing so it is not stable yet as IE6.
To uninstall IE7 go to the Control Panel and Click on the Add/Remove and be
sure show Updates are checked and uninstallIE7.
Run the command sfc /scannow fromthe Coomand and see if it will fix the
problem.
Hope this helps
Best of luck
