Cookies/no cookies and IE Version

I keep getting told that I do not accept cookies even after making the
security level the lowest and choose to allow all cookies. What gives???
When I run "winver" I am told I am using version 5.1 Build
2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 ; Service pack 2
I go to sites that say I DO NOT have the latest version of IE and need to
update, I downloaded ie6setup, but when I try to run/install, it says that it
I already have a newer version installed, so it won't install this. AGAIN,
what gives? I'm at the edge of chucking IE all together if I can get no
help.

You might want to post this to an IE newsgroup. Here is a list of all

Several of these are known to cause such problems:

1) Zone Alarm Pro [Private Header Info - enabled?] Reset "Ad Blocking" and
"Cookie Control" to "medium" "Mobile Code Control" = Off

2) Symantec (ISS\NIS) [Enable Browser Privacy - enabled] Active Content -
"Allow All Scripts To Execute" Problem: some sites cannot detect the 128 bit
encryption Solution: Completely remove and reinstall NIS.

3) Any "ad blocking" software that blocks "http_referer" or contains entries
that are blocking access to the desired site.

4) HOSTS file that contains entries that are blocking access to the desired
site.

5) Cookie blocking software that are blocking "required" Cookies.

6) Pop-up blockers that are stripping header\url info.

7) WebWasher Standard Filter/URL Filter

8) Make sure the following entry is not corrupt:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet
Settings] "User Agent"="Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0;)"

<end>

Suggest disabling any firewall until cookies are working correctly. Make
certain your time, date, and time *zone* settings are all correct.
