Converting old external CD burner

I had an old Iomega external CD burner whose motor stopped working. I
took it apart and tried to plug an INTERNAL DVD burner to the rear
board of the old Iomega (assuming that was the board that made it
capable of being external). It didn't work. Any ideas? I did switch
the DVD burner to the master jumper.

just the size matters ? no !

there were proprietary ( folkert , where are you ? ) drives which have
the same plug , but neither ide nor eide and really not atapi compatible
.. there is absolutely no difference between internal and external . both
need data and power .

Many of the external drives are often hard coded to only work with
certain model(s) so you're probably out of luck. You'd be better off
with a decent universal external case.
