Convert toc to regular word document without 'errors' appearing

Guest

I have a 200+ page document and only the table of contents needs review and I
need to e mail the TOC. When I copy and paste the TOC into a new document,
word tries to update and returns errors since the new document TOC is no
longer attached to the document. How can I make a TOC a standalone document?
Thanks

Click anywhere inside the ToC and press Ctrl+Shift+F9--this converts the
field code into actual text. Note: once you've done this, it will no longer
dynamically update. Never fear, however, you can always reinsert it as a
field code to update it, then press Ctrl+Shift+F9 once again when you want
it as text.

You can insert the TOC field in a new document and *then* unlink it (with
Ctrl+Shift+F9), leaving the TOC in the original document untouched. The TOC
pasted into a new document will still be fine until you update fields by
printing or viewing Print Preview (after which you could still Undo the
field update), so you can easily unlink it after pasting.

Reinserting TOCs is not recommended because it causes proliferation of
bookmarks, but you can lock the TOC field Ctrl+F11, then later unlock it
with Ctrl+Shift+F11.
