Word 2007 TOC for multiple docs...problem

I am using Word 2007... I want to create a document composed of multiple
Word 2007 documents, so that I have one table of contents (toc) and can print
it as one large document, but can also restrict access to individual files so
that only certain contributors can edit each document.

As a test, I created a single toc for the multiple documents according to
the instructions found on
http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=148, “Creating a
Table of Contents Spanning Multiple Documents†and that part works fine
(i.e., the toc updates properly if I update the individual documents and then
reopen and update the toc).

At this point, if I tried to print the document, all I got was the toc, so I
inserted each of the documents into the toc document using Insert > Object >
Create from File > Link to file. That seemed to work OK (and print
reasonably well) until a document exceeded a page in length. At that point,
the document is truncated to one page during printing.

Is there a better way to do this?

There's a big difference between inserting a linked *document file* and
inserting a linked *object* that happens to be a document file. No object
can exceed one page in length, but a linked file can.

On the Insert tab, click the down arrow next to the Object button and choose
Text From File. Select the file in the dialog, then click the down arrow
next to the Insert button and choose Insert As Link. If you toggle field
codes with Alt+F9, you'll see that the result is actually an IncludeText
field, instead of the Link field that you get for an object. This time you
should see the whole document.
