Convert NTFS files to FA32

All my files are currently NTFS, I have a large set of mp3 files
which I'm theoretically able to play through my new Samsung TV via its
USB port. I have a Western Digital USB drive which I can use to plug
into the TV.

Here's the catch. Samsung requires that the mp3 files be formatted as
FAT32.

So on my jump drive is there a way to convert the music files from
NTFS to FAT32?

Is this possible?

Is it possible without third party programs?

Files are not formatted as NTFS or FAT32. The underlying hard drive or
partition is what's formatted to a particular file system, such as NTFS
or FAT32. And then the files are stored under that file system.

So on my jump drive is there a way to convert the music files from

Only by deleting the current NTFS partition and creating a FAT32
partition in its place, formatting the entire drive, and thereby erasing
everything on it.
Is this possible?

Certainly not with WinXP's native tools.
Is it possible without third party programs?

No. And it's risky even with 3rd party tools. Backup all of the data
before attempting.

Files aren't "formatted as FAT32", disks or partitions are. Where did
you come up with that gem?

It's not the files that Samsung is complaining about, it's the disk. It
doesn't know how to access a NTFS-formatted disk, only a FAT32 (or FAT16).

As said Files are not formatted as such - but it could be that Samsung
can only read Fat 32 formatted HDs - so the easiest way would be to
transfer the MP3 files to a FAT32 formatted HD from the NTFS formatted
HD and connect that to the Samsung.

Or partition the WD USB HD into two partitions using FDisk (included
in Windows) - and format one as NTFS and the other as FAT32

OK, If I understand you correctly
you PC's hard drive is formatted NTFS.

The files you need are stored on your PC.

The WD USB drive is formatted FAT or FAT32.
You plan to plug the WD USB into the TV?

The Samsung TV requires FAT or FAT32.

If that is the case copy the files from your
NTFS drive in the PC to the FAT/Fat32 USB
drive and it should work.

Yes it's possible without using 3rd party programs. That is if there's
enough room on your hard drive to copy all of your MP3's to it, then
format the USB drive usng FAT32, then copy the MP3 files back onto the
USB drive.

What is the model of this new Samsung TV?

Why do you think Samsung wants FAT32? That is old fashioned.

I read through some manuals for their latest TVs and they say:

"The file system supports FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS."

You just can't plug in your device and expect it to do something.
Well, I guess you can expect it, but it is not reality.

What is the make and model of this WD device you want to use?

Files are not formatted FAT or NTFS - the drive where they are stored
is formatted FAT or NTFS (not the files).

You can check the file system on your storage devices (FAT or NTFS)
through My Computer, Properties.

Why not get a low cost 4GB USB Flash Drive (Thumb drive / Pen drive) which
is already formatted with FAT32 and copy some of the files to it and plug it
into the Samsung, at least to be sure it can play the files?

HTH. (Hope This Helps! :)
