Convert to NTFS -- lose data?

I have Win MCE 2005/XP Pro. I use a USB external drive for additional
storage. It has two partitions. Both partitions are FAT32. I read
the help files for converting to NTFS and found the command prompt
language. But I have a question ...

If I convert to NTFS, will I lose my documents?

Converting to NTFS is non-destructive. I would strongly suggest doing a
backup of everything you want to save before you do it though.

By definition, "convert" means that all data, programs, etc. are kept
intact.

However there are no guarantees that it always works perfectly.
However unlikely, it's always possible that something might go wrong.
For that reason it's prudent to be sure you have a backup of anything
you can't afford to lose before beginning.

To convert to NTFS, you use the CONVERT command. But first read
http://www.aumha.org/a/ntfscvt.htm because there's an important issue
regarding cluster size that isn't obvious.
