Convert avi's

Have a few avi files which I would like to convert to something
watchable on a DVD player (non DivX).
Any freeware that someone could recommend ?
Also a file joiner for avi mpeg etc...

I'm not sure if it's exactly what you want, but I've used SUPER
successfully for file conversion. Check out my multimedia page:
