controlling whether to dial-in or use the network

How does one control whether to use a dial-up connection or a LAN for
internet connectivity? I set my mom's laptop for dial-up but want to use my
home network when she's here. When I start IE, it's set to work off line.
When I change it to on-line, it opens the dial-up dialog rather than simply
using the existing network connection.

open IE, then tools, internet options, and select dial
whenever a network connetion is not preset.
You will probably have to refresh the first time when u
start also, at least i had to.
