continuous rebooting loop

hi all,
i have a continuous rebooting issue happening on my sons computer!!! It gets
as far as the xp splash screen, then reboots.
its a dell dimension 8200 p4 2.4, 512MB ..... not sure what he did to cause
this (if it was him at all... he says something about gremlins blah blah
dell blah blah...)

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had this problem with a dell once. Switch out the memory stick and see if
this fixes the problem.

Funny how you should say that.... i removed the 2 sticks (i think they are
bus ram? they look different) anyway, also blew out the cpu with compressed
air and the power supply..... and low and behold.... boots up!!!!!
Is this a signal that the ram is dying and i should order some new ram
sticks?

Mightbe rdram. you need to have all the slots filled. So you probably have
2 sticks with a metal cover on one side and 2 blank sticks.
Yes, order new ones. Shop around for pricing.

Or perhaps you just fixed an overheating problem cuased by dust/grime.
