Constant network access

I have Vista Ultimate installed on my machine. This machine is
networked to another PC and to a network drive. I made the mistake of
Sync'ing my network drive to my main machine. I stopped this but now
the network is constantly accessing my main machine and the network
drive as if it is still sync'ing. Looking on the the main machine's
and network's drive I can find no files being created. I could not
find any scheduled tasks running. My CPU meter (on the sidebar) is
showing 30-50% usage when it should show nothing. Checking Sync Center
I find that the network drive is still visible but not sync'ing nor is
it scheduled to sync.

Under task manager a process called svchost.exe takes up the same
processor time. Deleting it stops the constant accessing. This process
is a service called wudfsvc in the Services list. If I try to stop the
service by right-clicking on it I get an error: "The requested control
is not valid for this service". I have tried to find this service in
the Services manager but could not. I think that stopping this service
would cure the problem. Does anyone know how to identify it? Also is
there any way of getting rid of the Sync on my network drive? It still
shows up in Sync Center and there appears to be no way of getting rid
of it.

I am having the same problem, but it started out of the blue (no pun
intended!). I have to start Program Manager and look for the svchost that is
gobbling 50+% of my CPU. I kill it, and it reappears twice, I kill it twice,
and it then really dies.

I cecked the servies which had stopped after the three kills, and they were:

wudfvs
WPDBusEnum
Wlansvc
WeSystemsHost
UnRdpdService
TrkWks
TableInputService
SysMan
PcaSvc
Netman
hidsvc
EMDMgmt
AudioEndpohBuilder

Have you found a fix for this? I can keep doing the three kills every time I
start up, but that's hardly satisfactory.

Thanks.

Apologize -- typo in the previous email -- it is wudfsvc that was the first
culprit.

See these two websites:

http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm

The Black Viper site used to have a handy
PDF download that explained the services,
but I don't see it now on their site.

The problem is that you need to figure out
whether you actually need specific services,
and what their dependencies are. That information
is not easy to collect. And some of your running
services could also be 3rd-party.

But it's worth figuring out.
For instance, TrkWks is a service that keeps
track of links across networked machines. It has
no purpose if you're on a standalone PC.

files. chased down the syncing issue and all. I killed the process tree
thread of svchost that appeared to be the culprit, and the access stopped.Driver Framework" It shows up i the services under this name, but cannot be
stopped.
