connection problems on startup

since installing a new router, my computer, when booted up, takes about
10 minutes to establish an internet connection. the machine gets an IP
address from the router but it cant actually send or recieve any
packets. pings to other machines on the network dont work. i cant
access the router setup page. then, magically, about 10 minutes later,
the connection is up and everything is fine! no further problems.

steps ive taken:
uninstalled zone alarm (twice)
full virus/spyware scan
ran winsockfix utility which apparently reset basically everything
having to do with windows networking stuff
killed every non-critical process and service when starting up
tried a different port on the router
everything works fine with old router

again, i get an ip w/ dhcp, its just that something is blocking me.
what could it be??? the router is a d-link wireless. nothing in the
setup page looks wrong. all the other computers on the network work
fine.

I cannot believe this before I have more information, because it
would be rather unusual.

Please fill in the form, then post here the selections line

as i said, none of these symptoms are symptoms of my computer. the only
thing that comes even close is [sporadic=2]. the symptom is "no
internet connection at startup." there are no error messages. all my
adapters are there. i can ping myself but no other computers on the
network. firewall is uninstalled. no windows FW (and SP1). i get an ip
from DHCP right away, and my port is "active" and blinking on the
router. the problem *is* unusual, i've been posting for a week now here
and anandtech and no one seems to have a clue. ive scoured the history
of this group and AT to no avail. thanks for trying to help though. i'm
still looking for a solution though i don't think the symptoms will
persist when i return to school in 4 days. i've never had a problem
there before. still, i'd like to see the problem fixed.

Andy,

how is the computer connected to the router?
