Connection Failure?

Hi,

I've searched the newsgroups, and haven't been able to find info on the
following error message-
"A connection to the server could not be established.
http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp is now in offline mode."

Do I need to adjust my timeout? I've got 2 hotmail accounts set up in my
outlook, so I wouldn't think anything out of the ordinary to default would be
needed.

Thanks.

AndreasRoder - I am using outlook 2003 with one hotmail account and I am
getting the same message. I retyped all the account setup info, but my
Hotmail connection keeps getting droped. So if I want to delete an email I
have to goto: File -> connect to Hotmail. It will take 50% of the time but
only for a minute or two. It just started happening over the last three days.
By the way when I tried to work on my Hotmail account directly from home or
off site I have received a server busy error for the last three days - any
connection? ...

there are problems with hotmail's server. You'll just have to wait it out.

Hi, I've discovered that hotmail is now a 'member's only' service, and
Outlook 2002 doesn't connect to services not part of a paid account. I got
lucky with my first hotmail account because I read that if you started the
account before they switched to member's only, then it would still work.
However, my second hotmail account that I created for spam, will only work by
going to the site. Just an FYI.

In regards to the other reply saying that the server is too busy, and that
there are server problems, I wonder if it has anything to do with Microsoft
Services, because another one of my sites are down too and I'm having trouble
connecting to services.

Finally... others in the same boat as I. I've been a Hotmail user now
for nearly 10 years and have dodged many of its bullets/spam, etc.
through thick and thin and just can't 'let it go', but I'M ABOUT TO! I
mean, sheesh, I've seen many a Hotmail outage here and there, but this
one is a beast! Since Monday, 2/21/05 (4 full days now as I type this
Thurs night) it's been 'in offline mode' (ref: httpmail.asp message
when using Outlook) OR if connecting directly via www.hotmail.com, it
will be painfully slow, else it times out with 'Server Too Busy'/'Try
Later' messages.

Perhaps it's time to cut the cord and go with Gmail or my Yahoo mail
account primarily... but I've used my beloved (until now) Hotmail
address for so long (and have it tied into so many people's address
books and online merchants) that I would need to forward incoming
hotmail.com stuff to whatever new mail service I go with, to even
consider switching. In the 'options' of Hotmail, there's nowhere to
'forward' (probably on purpose by Microsoft) --- anyone know of a way
to 'forward' any/all mail to another address?

Else, any 'official' word from anywhere/anyone as to WHY this
particular outage has been so lengthy/painful?

jf- I am also considering the new GMail, but I'm also not sure what to do
about my 7+ years of using my hotmail address to people. I'm guessing that
the best thing to do, is to send the new address to those emailed on a
regular basis.
