Connecting two computers

I have a small network in my home and use a Netgear
Router which has wireless & cable connections. I have two
computers connected using the cable connections. Can I
connect the two computers in a private network using a
parallel cable and still remain connected to the router
via the ethernet cable? I use hi speed cable forinternet
and email service. I would like to be able to transfer
files and folders between the two computers without going
through the router. I am running Win XP Home on both
computers.

You can do that, but I can't imagine why you would want to. An
Ethernet connection through your router transfers data much, much
faster than a parallel connection. The router acts as a firewall,
preventing other Internet users from accessing your network.

What advantage do you see to the parallel connection?
