administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Task '(e-mail address removed) - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC0D) : 'Unable to find

And did you follow the advice those errors gave you?

A friend of mine just had the same problem. I checked the instructions at
AOL, and everything seemed correct. I even removed the account and set it up
again from scratch. The smtp server is working, but the incoming imap is the
same error as detailed by the original poster.

My suggestion was "dump AOL" and get a "real" email account somewhere, but
I'd still prefer to solve his problem. I did follow all the directions, but
my ISP (AT&T formerly SBC) does not answer AOL questions.

I can imagine they wouldn't. AOL would be the place to get an AOL issue
solved.

Post the values you have in the various fields in the account properties.
Include exact values, except for username and password, of course.

The friendly AOL support people can only read from the same text provided to
users, apparently unaware of any other factors.

Email: (e-mail address removed) Account: username Password: password
Servers: imap.aol.com smtp.aol.com
Outgoing server requires auth...same as incoming
Ports: Incoming 143 Outgoing 587
No SSL anywhere

Thanks for any suggestions.

And the "Root folder path" field is empty? Try enabling diagnostic logging
and see if anything sticks out in the log.

Make sure you've followed the instructions at
http://postmaster.aol.com/imap/outlook02.html or
http://postmaster.aol.com/imap/outlook00.html, whichever applies to your
version of Outlook.

Hi Brian. Sorry for the delays. I have to relay your responses and
questions to my friend. Yes, the Root Folder Path box is empty. I've just
learned another part of the story, though.

The computer is on a network with MS Small Business Server 2003. I gather
it is used as a basic file sharing server only. No Exchange Server, IIS, or
other SBS bargain components. They have a 2-Wire DSL router from AT&T
(formerly SBC). The workstations have the server IP address for DNS, and
server DNS Forwarding points to the router. I don't think there is a DNS
issue, as he can ping imap.aol.com and get an IP address response before the
four "destination unreachable" replies.

What I wonder, though, since he set up the Dell server himself, is if there
might be some default settings in the Small Business Server. In any case,
I've sent the instructions for enabling logging, so there may be more info
forthcoming. (BTW, I did suggest that he come to this forum himself. I am
interested in the problem, but I would be happy enough to just hear how he
fixed it--after the fact.) Thanks again, Brian, for your ideas.

Update. I just connected to the problem computer, enabled logging, and
checked mail. Here is the text of log0:

And here is log1:

This is my first time to be involved with an IMAP mail issue, so I am
somewhat intrigued and really curious. All I understand in these logs is
"The connection to the server has failed", which sounds pretty final.

Thanks again, Brian.

I have one of those 2-Wire routers. I've never used an IMAP connection
through it, but it does contain a firewall, so perhaps your friend should
check that first. I don't see any indication in the logs that the client
has even gotten to the point where it attempts to authenticate to the server
so it seems there's something more basic going wrong in the networking.

Since you say he can ping the server, it's time to pretend to be an IMAP
client and see where in the process it fails. See the following, have your
friend try it, and report back what happens.
