Connecting to a Standalone 2000 server from the domain

In my lab I have an Active directory domain, and some servers working as
standalone servers.
When I try to connect to a share on one of the stand alone servers, it takes
close to a minute and sometimes even more, till I get the authentication
popup window.
But when I try to connect from a standalone pc (not a member of the domain)
to that same server, it succeeds very fast.
I've tried it from a few pc's to a few servers, and the results were as I
mentioned.
Does anyone know why?
Thanks,
Assaf

They are probably having a difficult time finding them. You could try to use
Netmon the see what is going on. I have a similar situation, but do not have your
problem. Even if a computer is not a member of my domain. I use the domain controller
as their dns server. I have dynamic dns enabled, but not secure dynamic. My "non
domain" computers therefore are registered in the Active Directory dns zone. I
believe that may be why I am not experiencing the lag time. You could also try
configuring your hosts file with the name/ip mapping of the non domain computers.
Just be sure to save it with no extension or it will not work. ---Steve
