Can a standalone Win2k web serveract as one of it's own DNS name servers too?

I am trying to get a customers' web sites up on the Internet.
Just built him a new standalone Win2k Server for the purpose.
No LAN connections permitted. Only connections from the
outside are permitted so it's not in a domain or not a DC. The web site is
www.edftx.us but it's not reachable yet.

I installed DNS on the web server to see if I could route traffic to it. An
A record points to the server name as Host and it's static IP on the
Internet as data.

Customer asked if the server itself, since it's out on the Internet
behind a router with port 53 open for DNS traffic, can act as
one of the two required name servers. Name servers do not have
to be named NSx.x.x do they? This servers name is CC1.

Two name servers are required by the RFC. But will it begin functioning with
only one name server if we can get this standalone web server to act as a
name server also?

( These are off-the-wall questions but I really don't know what to say to my
customer when he comes up with these oddball queries. )

At any rate, this is arrangement not functioning. If I can get this server
to act as it's own DNS nameserver tell me how I can do so as a stop gap
until the customer comes to understand he's eventually going to have to pay
for commercially available DNS services .

Did a DNS report on the customers www.edftx.us web site on www.dnsstuff.com
and it showed lots of failures.

Thanks

If you have the name pointer from the Registrar set to that IP, you have done all you need to do. Now it is a waiting game while all the DNS servers on the net get the information. You need to give it 4 to 48 hours... Keep trying it will show up...

I have quite a few set up like this, DNS is slooooooowww.....
