Configure a client to use a specific DC

We have no control over the single Win2000 DC at our site.
Recently they (head of IT overseas) put in another DC, a Win2003 server this
time.

This rendered our (one and only) Win95 box being unable to log on to the AD
network.
Shutting down the Win2003 DC fixes the problem.

I'd like to know, how do I configure a Windows client PC to use a specific
Domain Controller only?
I tried creating a LMHOSTS file on a Windows client PC with the following
entry without success.

10.20.30.40 ourw2kdc #PRE #DOM:mydomain #net group's DC

where 10.20.30.40 is the IP of the Win2000 Domain Controller
and 'ourw2kdc' is the NETBIOS name.

What am I doing wrong?

Is there a registry key change that I can make on the client so that it only
goes for a specific DC?
Can I use a DHCP scope option? (along with client reservation)

Hi Andrei
Thank you for your response.
Unfortunately I have no control over any DC so I cannot (and do not wish in
any case to) disable SMB signing.
As I said, shutting down the Win2003 DC forces the Win95 box use the Win2000
DC and that works well.

BTW, I cannot upgrade that Win95 box at this stage for issues I will not go
into.
