Computer wont work with web when router is plugged in...

Recently we lost our internet through our network, according to m
Service provider it is an inside problem within the computer that wil
not allow the computer to communicate with the router. At first the
said it was the router, 3 routers later, same problem. I spent about 1
hours in the past two days trying to figure it out with a representativ
from the provider and got it to work for about 5 minutes. When th
router is plugged in the IPCONFIG is saying that the IP adress is
169.XXX.XXX... but I was told it has to be a 192.XXX.XXX... How do
fix the host computer so the IP adress configures to the router? Th
computer works fine with the internet when plugged directly to th
modem and the IP adress is a 68.XXX.XXX... But we can not get it t
recognize the router, after rolling back the operating system an
releasing the IP, unplugging and repowering about 100 times an
nothing, got the IP to be 0.0.0.0 and than it goes back to the 169.XX
numbers. Could someone please help? My buisness depends on this and it
killing me. Thanks!

The IP address of 169.***.***.*** (usually 169.254.***.***) is (by default)
the windows address that gets assigned to an adapter when no network
connectivity can be established.

Obviously you're trying to use DHCP with the router, what happens if you
manually assign the IP address for your PC?

It seems you have a basic connectivity issue.

try to assign an IP statically that is within the subnet of your routers LAN
port (192.168.X.10 subnet mask 255.255.255.0)
and assign your gateway the ip address of the routers ethernet port
(generally 192.168.x.1 or x.254 whatever it happens to be)

then try to ping that default gateway from a command prompt, if you are able
to ping it, then your connected and should be able to get to the router to
configure it to accept the WAN connection properly as well (ppoe/a for DSL or
DHCP for cable modem etc.etc) once your router acquires a WAN IP from your
ISP your good to go.

if you can not ping the router, you need to check your link lights (on the
network adapter as well as the router) if you dont have link you need a new
cable, if you have link lights active you may still need to check you cable,
use a standard cat5 straight through cable, not a crossover.

barring all that from working it becomes a NIC issue, replace your network
adapter, or disable it if its onboard and put in a new pci Network adapter,
install drivers go to step one for phyical connection testing :)
