computer suddenly shuts down itself

HI,
Please help. If the computer suddenly shuts down, is that because faulty
power? It seems like when I was running some program which require heavy cpu
time, then it shuts down. But for any other use, it works fine. It never
shuts down even I surf the internet for a whole day. I remember that few
months ago, I took my cpu out and put it back (just testing), will there be
any problem, like the heat sink or the fans damaged? Thanks

Heat is a common cause of random shutdowns.

Your Two statements, "It seems like when I was running some program which
require heavy cpu| time, then it shuts down"

and

"I remember that few months ago, I took my cpu out and put it back (just
testing)"

tend to lend to the plausibility of that hypothesis.

Check that your heatsink/fan are mounted properly and use an appropriate
heat dissipating compound.

i have just open the case and reinstall the heat sink. It seems ok, it's
tightly mounted onto the cpu. Will it be some other problem?

Is your computer getting plenty ventilation? What is the spec of your
computer and what does the instructions of the software say about system
requirements? I remember a couple of years ago I couldnt run championship
manager 03\04 because my computer simply wasnt up to it. You might have to
replace your processor or add more memory.
