Sometimes the spyware/malware/crapware on a computer can cause problems. Go
to:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com and install Ad-Aware and scan/remove the junk
from system. Then Start>Run msconfig and disable unwanted Startup item to
keep your system running clean and fast.

That being said, the shut down problem is likely to be hardware related.
Best bet is RAM errors, go to:
http://memtest86.com and make Memterst86 boot disk to test RAM. Experiment
with BIOS settings. Be sure to have latest BIOS, motherboard chip set and
AGP drivers, and video card drivers.

I had the same problem. Turns out it was a problem with the RPC (Remote Procedure Call). Go to Start|Run and type in services.msc and click OK. Find the Remote Procedure Call and right-click on it. Select Properties. For each of the first, second, and subsequent failures, use the drop-down and select "restart the service". This should stop the problem. If not, then use the drop-down and select "take no action". This stopped my problem and it never came back!!

RPC problem was probably because of blaster virus (or some others), so you
SHOULD run virus killer also and maybe install firewall just to make sure
YOU do not spread blaster etc viruses further
