Computer Locking Up

It's freezing at various different times after booting, usually after
logging on, but sometimes during the splash screen. Also locks up in safe
mode. Running WIN XP Pro on AMD 1000 system, 512 RAM. NAV 2003 and Ad-Aware
run in last 2 days, problem just started this AM.

I'm having the same problem with XP home. I am currently running in safe mode to prevent lockup. I have only 16 bit colors to work with and believe me it sucks. I found out that the problem is with my vid card(Rage 128 Pro Ultra 4XL VR-R AGP) I built my system with Win 98 installed from the CD. I didn't have any problems until I upgraded to XP, and I like XP home
I can't even download the driver from ATI without getting conflict messages. My solution is to get a lower end card that is XP friendly. I'm no gamer just an average user(internet, etc.) I even tried MS support with little success. They gave me the driver to load but no luck. I hope some one else has a better solution. Good luck!
