Computer Keeps Shutting Off

Hey Guys,
got a problem i cnt solve, my computer seems to switch off everytime i
do a big process e.g. Converting a mp3 file to ogg or sumthing or
installing a large program. i first thought it was my hard drive n that
it kept overheating, so i gt a 250Gb hard disk n i still have the same
problem. Now i think it may be my processor after i chekd the bios.
This is my comp:

OS: Microsoft XP SP2
CPU: AMD Sempron 2200+ 1.5Ghz, 193Mb of Ram
2 Hard Drives: Primary-40Gb Maxtor, Slave-20Gb Seagate (new 1s 250Gb
Maxtor)

I chekd the BIOS n did the PC HEALTH CHECK, is it me or does the CPU
seem abit hot?
System Temperature: 21'C/69'F
CPU Temperature: 84'C/183'F
CPU Fan Speed- 2445rpm (<<--------is this slow??)

plz help!!!

Your CPU temp may be the cause of your problem. That is way to hot in my
view.
Check to see that the CPU fan is working properly and is not stuffed up with
dust..
Maybe something is restricting the airflow severely.

Yes, that fan speed is slow for that type of temperature if you are using a
variable speed fan.

Furthermore, the differential between the system temperature of 21C and the
CPU of 84C is way to large.

With a system temp of 21C, I would have expected a CPU temp under 50C even
with a low performing CPU fan.

The processor has a Max power consumption of 63 watts and is rated to a max
die temp of 90C. However, there is often quite a difference between the
measured temp and the die temp. My strong preference is to keep CPU temp
under 60C.

thanx m8, iv cleaned out the fan (loads of dust) but iv stil gt the same
problem. the heatsink was cloggd up with alot of dust which i cleard out
but the temp is still high, wud u recommend a new Fan?? if so ne ideas
which is the best for cooling and will really cool it dwn with max air
flow?

How high is it after you cleaned out the dust. Did you also check to see
that you don't have ribbon cables on top which restrict the airflow.

Furthermore, who installed the heatsink fan combination ? It is also
possible that the heatsink was not properly installed.
Anytime a heat sink is installed (normally comes with the fan), both the
processor surface as well as the heatsink surface need to be cleaned.
Isopropyl Alcohol (Rubbing alcohol) normally works fine. Some conductive
material is applied (artic silver works fine) or some sinks comes with a
little pad that melts as temperature increases. This fills in all the small
gaps and makes quite a difference in heat transfer.
