computer is restarting on it's own

I have a laptop and have used it for about 1 hour in the last week, but at
the beginning of the week, on a car trip, I opened it up, began to use
Encarta 2007, and then it restarted.... I thought, this could a) be a virus
or b) I didnt notice that it had finished installing updates and it was just
restarting. So I thought it was fine when it didnt restart for the rest of
the week (I was only on it for about 20-30 minutes at a time, and only went
on about 3 times). Then, today (this weekend) it restarted again. Now I'm
scanning for viruses with AVG free, the notron, free online scanner, and with
lavasoft and spybot. I have gotten rid of some spyware with spybot, and am
still searching with the other ones. What could this problem be? In between
restarts, nothing else seems to be wrong.

OH! I forgot to mentionthat on start-up after the reboot, a window appears
saying (in the title bar) Update.exe - Application Error
Then the message in the widnow says: The application failed to initialize
properly (0xc0000022). Click on OK to terminate the application.

Anyone have any ideas? If you can reply to this, keep in mind that, although
I'm pretty good with computers, I cant always do something if you simply tell
me to do it. I often need some sort of instruction.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Sorry... neither helped much.... The regestry entries werent there for the
zango, and I dont have norton... I went with it for a few years, but,
eventually, it was taking up too much of the system memory and too much of
the processor... I find that any purchased virus scanner does this... I hate
it... It doesnt seem like u can compromise between system req's and quality.
