What is the CPU and how much RAM does the computer have? Right click on
the My Computer icon on ther Desktop and select Properties to get this
information.

Try Ctrl+Alt+Delete to select Task Manager and click the Performance
Tab. Under Commit Charge what is the Total, the Limit and the Peak?

ok the CPU is a AMD Athlon 7750 Dual core with 2 gb memory on a XFX
GeForce 8200 with a XFX GeForce 9600 GSO.

As for the commit charge

Total 221376
Limit 4034824
Peak 778104

I checked in the event viewer for any error messages and there are
none. as i said as long as you are using the computer it is fine but
leave it for a min or two and it freezes and she has to reboot.

How does the freeze end?

Does the computer just freeze with the screen as it was left or does it
go into Standby or Hibernation?

Are all fans working?

Is the computer a Desktop or a Laptop?

If it works fine while she is gaming, how could the fans possibly be the
problem? Just asking.
It could possibly be related to some sort of hibernation or screensaver or
power management settings.

I suppose the list of possible causes of freezeups is extremely large.
Two causes in my personal experience have been "flakey" hardware
and partition managers. In the first case I once owned a cheap
motherboard that caused frezeups when run at its rated clock rate.
Only if the clock rate was reduced slightly would the computer run
"freezeup free".

In the second case, only when I removed a second partition from my
hard drive would my current machine run "freezeup free". My clue
here was that a cloned drive worked fine ... so I knew the problem
was associated with my normal working hard drive (or something I
had done to it like create a second partition).

Solved the lock ups and crash

Had the same problem with my XFX 9600GSO 768MB in three different motherboards

1.XFX 8200 Mobo
2.Asus M2N78-VM Mobo
2.MSI K9N2 Plat Mobo

Always lock ups and crashes with any chipset driver/graphics driver combo.

The forced the graphics driver to install as "9600GSO 512" instead of "9600GSO" using the 190.38 driver and all lockups and crashes went away system and card is very stable now.

Hope this helps
