Computer Freeze Up

Every time I try to rip songs onto my computer it freezes
up. Also my computer freezes every time I play a song in
windows media player. However, when playing music in
winamp I do not have this problem. I am sick of buying
CDs over and over again and I would like to store them on
my computer for back up. Any help you could provide
would be greatly appreciated.
