Computer Crashes

Help
I am a new internet user connected through a cable
modem. My computer keeps crashing and restarting after
between 1 and 10 mins on internet.
A friend said window xp has built in security that shuts
down when it feels a tickle???
I have installed the latest norton anti virus but it
still crashes.
My ISP tech support said it could be blaster worm virus,
I have downloaded a patch to fix that. It still crashes.
Any ideas???

It sounds like your trying to install the tool for cleaning off the blaster
virus. Unfortunatly you have to have MS03-026 or MS03=-039 before this tool
will run. Install those patches first, otherwise the tool would clean it
off and before you could patch yourself you would be infected again. Hope
this helps.

Greetings --

If you connected the PC to the Internet without having first
enabled a firewall, without having first installed an antivirus
application with current virus definition files, and before installing
the KB824146 Hotfix, you're very likely to get infected from any of
the thousands of PCs on the Internet that are constantly broadcasting
the Blaster and/or Welchia worms. It only takes a few seconds of
exposure.

To stay on-line long enough to get the necessary updates, patches,
and removal tools, click Start > Run, and enter "shutdown -a" when the
next RPC countdown begins. This will abort the shut down. Also, make
sure you've enabled a firewall before starting, to preclude any more
intrusions while getting the updates/patches/tools.

If your computer is constantly attempting to shutdown
or reboot, quickly go to:

Start > Run and type: CMD , and hit enter.
This opens the Command Prompt window.

Then type: shutdown -a , and hit enter.

This should halt the rebooting problem.

America Online installs its own connection settings that

the ones that come with Windows XP. America Online's
connection settings don't include a way to turn on Windows
XP's
built-in firewall.
