compress old files

I was trying to do a disk cleanup and accidently clicked
on compress old files. A warning came up asking if I
really wanted to do this. I, mistakenly, clicked yes.
Now I cannot get it to stop compressing the old files. I
have not attempted any further cleanup since. Everytime I
do, the box comes up that old files are still
compressing? How do I stop this action.

Compressed Folders - Disable Compressed Folders in Windows XP

Windows XP includes a built-in feature to manage compressed ZIP files and
folders. This tweak allows you to disable it and install a third-party
application.

To disable the compressed folder feature click on Start/Run and enter the
following command: regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll.
To enable ZIP folder support run this command: regsvr32 zipfldr.dll.
Restart Windows for the change to take effect.
