Compaq AIT 50 Tape Drive Direct Access (Drive Letter)

F

Fred R.

I have just added a Compaq AIT-50 SCSI Tape Drive to my
XP Pro system. XP's backup software backups data to the
tape drive correctly. I have also updated the driver.
But, I would like to assign a drive letter to the tape
drive so I may access the tape drive directly through
explorer. How do I do this? Or is there software package
that would do this for me? My main need is to move & copy
files individually from local hard drives to the tape
drive and keep the same file name extension.

Thanks.

Right click on My Computer and select Manage.

On the following screen, select Disk Management.

The drive should appear on the right hand side of the screen and you should
be able to assign if a drive letter from here.

Cari, thanks for the reply. I followed the steps you gave
below, but there is no option to select a drive letter. I
tried these steps with the driver Windows XP Pro
installed automatically and with the driver that Compaq
provided. I have been all through Disk Management and can
not find any way to add a drive letter.
