I am having the same exact problem. I don't know what else to do.
I reinstalled everything 4 times already...
It happens after downloading the updates from microsoft...
If anyone knows how to solve this please share!
When a user tries to logon, he is asked for a password and gets the
error message: "Program issued a command but the command length is
incorrect".

This is caused by Update KB885835 and booting to Last Known Good
Configuration will get them in and this seems to solve the issue. It
has been report that it is not necessary to remove the update, but it
has also been reported that it *is* necessary to remove the update. You
decide.

I have just upgraded to XP Pro and downloaded several updates. I have
the same problem as noted below. I like your response but how do I
back off to an earlier good configuration if I cannot get booted? I am
not a geek so any info would be useful. Thanks
When the computer is starting up, repeatedly tap the F8 key. This will
get you to the correct menu to select Last Known Good Configuration.
