Com Port 3 Problem

Steve B

I have a semi-old PC, I have recently installed XP and
now my modem does not work. It says that my modem is
attached to com3 and that the device is working
correctly. When i try to connect to the web my modem
fails. Looking under the device manager, I cant find that
my com3 port is installed, instead when I try and add new
hardware, the newly installed port jumps straight to
number 3, its driving me crazy, please help!

Hi

Your modem may be too old for XP
Try download the latest XP compatible drivers from the modem manufacturer's website or do a google search for a suitable drivers
If you can't find it from teh websites, buy a new modem that comaptible with XP. It's cheap today, less than $20.

The ports that you see in the device manager are the physical ports on the
motherboard. Your modem port should not show up there. Your problem is
elsewhere.

I have an old Motorola ISA interface modem and it works great with XP. Did
not have to download any drivers. Go to Control Panel , Phone and Modem
Options, Modems and see if your modem is listed and what com port it is
attached to. If it is, do Properties, Query Modem and see if it responds.
Good luck.
