Color Balance of film in vuescan

J

Jack Frillman

Way back in the 1983 when I went to South America I used 5247 and 5229
film from Seattle Film Works that was
unspooled movie film. This film is not listed in Vuescan list of films
so I need to figure out a profile for this film so

the color balance is correct. Does anyone have any suggestions on what
setting to use?

I have just started to use Vuescan and my new scanner and I am not
familiar with all it functions yet.
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

From within ViewScan, hit F1 for Help, Select 'ViewScan User's Guide',
and check out 'Advanced Workflow Suggestions'. Briefly, this procedure
characterizes each roll of film by scanning and analyzing the color of
the leader, and locks in those values, superceeding the 'generic'
settings. I use it always because it accounts for small differences
from roll to roll.

It is worth noting that film stock is balanced for incandescent light,
not for sun light. You get weird cross-overs that in my experience
could never be totally eliminated in the darkroom. It is possible that
digital processing might be able to correct these, but don't count on
it. I haven't tried it yet so I don't know.
