Im trying to slipstream sp2 in my xp install but cant even get past the first
step, when I open command promt it wont accept anything I put in it it
already has C:\Documents and Settings\mark> I just need to get it to be C:\>

Im new at this stuff but need to learn it,got a 250gb hdd and dont want to
have to partition it in to a million pieaces

Hi,

Try using the following to change to just your C directory.

cd c:\

The cd is asking for a Change Directory, the c:\ is obvious.

or
cd /d c:\
or
cd.. hit Enter and type cd.. again.

Try this...

Right click the Desktop | New | Shortcut |
Paste this in the location box:

%SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe

Click Next | Click Finish |

Right click the new cmd.exe shortcut | Properties |
In the Start in box replace %windir% with C:\ |
Click Apply | Click OK

Double click the new shortcut and you should see.............

(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\>

You can also change the Start in for the cmd shortcut located under
Accessories on the Start Menu.

Right click the cmd shortcut | Properties | Type: C:\ in the Start in
box

Thanks guys, a little while after I posted my question I found the same
question on this forum and did the cd .. thing every tim I opened the cmd
prompt, I am also new to this forum, lots of good info here. Thanks again
Also thanks wesley for the short cut tip, works great... dont have to type
cd .. every time now.
