Frankly, I don't know where I should post this as I'm out of
ideas as to what is causing the problem.
This is a Compaq machine which came with XP Home preinstalled.
We installed both Winfax Pro 10.02 (compatible with XP) and
PC Anywhere 10.5 (also XP compatible). The machine has been
working trouble-free for many months.
One day I got a call saying that they could no longer edit entries in the
Winfax addressbook. I went to have a look and found that I could
open an entry in the address book for editing just fine. But if I clicked
on the telephone number field, the Winfax program just closed. So
I reopened it and tried tabbing to the telephone number field instead
of clicking on it, but it closed this way too.
The interesting thing is that if I get into the machine remotely over
PC Anywhere, everything works fine!
The customer says nothing new has been installed, which I believe.
However, there may have been some updates installed via Windows
Update or Symantec's Live Update. So far, I've come up empty
scouring the KB's at Microsoft and Symantec.
I've tried updating the video drivers, checking for a virus, malware, and
spyware but everything scans clean. I've also tried uninstalling and
reinstalling Winfax.
Does anyone have any suggestions? This has me stumped!
Thanks.
