Clearing out temporary files sent to write on a CD

I accidentally sent my WINDOWS system file to be written to a CD. Now I can
not delete the temporary files that were created, and they pop up every time
I insert a CD and keep me from writing any new CDs. Everytime I try to
delete the files, I get the error message that the files are protected. Is
there any way to get around this and get these temporary files off of my
computer?

What Windows system file?

Assuming that you're dealing with RW CDs, why
don't you simply erase the CD?

I clicked on the WINDOWS folder and then Send To CD Drive. Now it has the
copied temporary files waiting to be copied onto a CD, and I am unable to
delete these temporary files and get them off of my system.

Try the following:
remove any cd/dvds from drives
restart computer
go to this folder:
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Cd Burning

where userprofile is something like C:\Documents and Settings\Your_user_name

be sure to *uncheck* (tools/folder options/view)

hide hidden and system files
hide operating system protected files

I forgot to say that you should delete all the files inside the cd burning folder :)

If you have localized version of windows, to obtain correct path, launch regedit and go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders

There you will find key "CD Burning", which holds the full path to the temporary files which you need get
empty.

Good luck, Y.

I am still unable to delete the files under the Font folder and system32
folder that are temporary. I receive the error that access is denied or the
folders are currently in use.

I have encountered this problem a couple of times, though not with
Windows system files. The solution that worked for me is as follows.
Remove all CDs from your CD drive (CD writer, or CD/DVD writer, I
presume), and then open the CD drive in Windows Explorer. You would
find there the files waiting to be written to the CD. Delete them.
I am not absolutely sure this would work with "system" files. Anyway,
give it a try. Good luck.

That is what I have always done in the past, too. But even though these are
temporary files, it still seems that they are protected for some reason. I
need to find a way to get past that somehow.
