GRRRRR --- HELP
I'm searching all over the net and have tried everything to no avail
1 year old dell inspirion 1750 - came with vista - got a virus
Have reformatted, repartitioned, installed drivers at correct spot and
install clean Vista - Dell had me swap some things around in BIOS etc to no
avail ... I go fine thru the clean install until I get to the "completing
installation" and then it reboots and starts all over at the screen to
install vista - I have seen many many posts and many many "supposed" fixes
but nothing is working for me
Anyone have a sure fix??
I'm intending on trying these things later at home
1 - will try the install with disable EIST in bios
if that doesn't work
2 - will insert the driver disc back in after vista copies files and before
it reboots at the complete installation stage - someone noted that it needs
drivers here but doesn't prompt you for them
if that doesn't work
3 - I will try - good luck for me here - to plug the monitor directly into
the mother board after removing the video card ---- MY first laptop
experience so I have no clue where to find these things in there YIPES
Anyway, Any thoughts anyone PLEASE!!!

If the machine isn't working with a clean install using Dell's installation
media (or recovery partition) and/or a clean install won't complete, you
have hardware issues. Contact Dell tech support for repair/replacement,
hopefully you were smart and bought an extended warranty. In any case, your
only recourse is through Dell. Don't let the tech give you any run around.
Be firm.

Thanks Malke - I figured maybe someones figured it out by now - 5 hours last
night with those nit wits - each one telling me something different til 4:30
in the AM.... magine how cranky I am right now! Yup, getting the run around
for sure I'm under 1 year warranty til Jan 28, 09 so I've got to get this
straightened out, at least before I extend the warranty which is what they
are all trying to get me to do now! I've had problems with this 1200.00
machine since day one - I cuss the ground and I've always been a dell girl -
very freaking frustrating - but I'm determined!

Since it's still under warranty, insist that they take it back and either
replace it completely or replace the motherboard. I like Dells, but I
always buy from the small business division so I get good tech support. I
have clients who bought from the home division who pay me to deal with Dell
tech support. The problem is the techs will try and make you jump through
hoops. Some of the hoops are necessary, but not at your point. Just call
them up and tell them the da*n thing won't work and they need to make it
right with you.

GOT IT!!!!!

THIS WORKED FOR ME

Ok... so my IT guy here at work is an absolute GOD - this was my install

Few things to keep in mind - if the bios is set to boot 1. DVD/CD then 2.
HDD when the vista install reboots in the middle of the install it will kick
right back to the DVD and begin the install from the start - this was the
first problem I had (totally makes sense NOW!)
AND
you definitely (in my case) need the drivers when you do the partition part
of the reinstall - found on the dell utilities and drivers DVD
Amazing how I spent 5 hours with Dell in the middle of the night and stayed
up til 4:30 am with no solution and I was able to figure it out (with the IT
guys help) and install on my lunch hour!!!!

SO this is the solution to my case
1. Start computer and F2 to bios
a. restore defaults (just to be safe cause Dell had me fiddling in
there)
b. make boot order
1. HDD
2. DVD/CD
2. Restart computer and catch the F12 so it boots from the DVD/CD drive
rather than the HDD (which we just did in 1.b above) somewhere here you have
to catch the "press any key" to book from DVD - gotta be quick!
3. Delete all partitions and make 1 new one - reformat full format if
necessary (but I don't think this is necessary if you delete completely)
4. At this point in the lower left box you will see drivers - this is when
you should put the dell utilities and drivers DVD in the DVD drive and click
"rescan" and the drivers you need will come up and you should install them or
click next here I think
5. It then goes on to install the first 4 phases of Vista - the last one is
completing installation - at this point the computer reboots - this is why
the 1.b.1 and 1.b.2 is done - otherwise it boots right back to the DVD and
wants to begin the install from the beginning again... we want it to get the
data from the HDD - which is where you installed the first 4 items in the
install.... At this point I got nervous cause it kept going ... ... ...
but it eventually completed the install and booted into Window Vista -----
sheesh
So my 2 issues were
1. Vista clean install hangs on "completing installation" which the drivers
corrected and
2. Vista reboots and begins new after completing a portion of the install
which the boot order in bio corrected
SO, who wants to hire me??????
PHEW!
