Classroom Default Domain/Local Policy issue

Jerry

Hello,

Having an issue in the classroom.

Instructor machine = Win2k Server SP4 AD installed
Workstation = Win2k Pro SP4

Apply a Local Policy everything works as applied.
Apply the Default Domain Policy, Login to domain,
Cumulative effects take place GPO overwrites desired
settings. No problem.

Same scenario for student machines. Local Policy works.
Default Domain Policy is not being brought over. Student
Servers are Desktop based. Student Workstations are on
Laptops.

Check student configurations and they are identical to
instructors configurations for both policies. Any idea as
to why the GPO is not merging with the Local Policy?

Thanks in advance!

DNS!

My guess is that the DNS IP is not correct on the laptops. Other ideas would
be:
Duplicate computer SID
Duplicate computer name

Jerry,

Can you logon to one of the student machines as a student, and run a
gpresult /v, and paste the contents into a reply?

Derek!

Thanks that was the problem. The way the classroom was
set up is that I have the students routing through a Win2k
RRAS box as their default gateway. As I can not allow the
classroom DNS to interfere with the campus DNS I had them
set their DNS server to the campus DNS so they could still
get out on the internet when not hooked up with a
crossover between laptop and server. Once we pointed them
all to their own DNS server it worked like a charm.

Appreciate the help.
