Thank you Gert.
I had not scheduled a chkdsk check folllowing several additions to an
subsequent resizing of my XPpro NTFS partition on my Toshiba notebook
Following the resizing, defrag wouldn't run saying that a chkdsk wa
necessary. However, no matter what I tried (resetting the ntf
parameters to default values, scheduling and rescheduling of chkds
with command line and "drive properties" settings, removing som
recently added sw, insuring that I had more than 15% free spac
available etc) nothing worked.
I had recently upgraded to ZA V. 5.0+ and, seeing your message,
uninstalled it and bingo, it did a full chkdsk on the first reboot
Zone Alarm's webpage makes no mention of this and continues to mak
available the (probable) offending version. It may have been a
interaction with other actions of mine, but the evidence seems to poin
strongly toward ZA 5 - I don't have time to exhaustively check th
alternatives.
Additionally, the exercise pointed out just how disorganized is the M
approach to fundamental functions and the documentation of their use.
must have read a hundred posts from other users having trouble wit
this aspect or that related to NTFS chkdsk problems.
You stopped the hemoraging of my time which I, if no one else, value
Thanks again
